Fake It Until You Make It

The birds perch on Santa Monica Boulevard coming and going as they please. I glare enviously at them and their view of this robust vivacious city as I cross over onto Beverly Dr. Yet, they don't need to sacrifice, persevere or input hard work, they are closer to touching the sky then any L.A. dreamer is. They just know how to Fly. The L.A. dreamer follows the signs, down the boulevards, anticipating a final destination of opportunity to unfold their success.

I pray everyday for a sign to guide me, so I can one day perch too. Stuck in immense grid lock, I spend more time daily inching in traffic on the pristine streets of Beverly Hills then I do driving toward my aspirations and goals. I seductively take a sip the organic iced green tea, to keep up with the trend of healthy living. "That's so LA", I said, a Voodoo like mantra we all abide by.

As I drive, whatever direction I take, the birds will get there faster. Faster than any aspiring and struggling artist or talent will. We are all riding down the infamous Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

  1. For our first blog assignment, we were to construct a series of posts that define a sense of place, structure and feeling that go along with the overall theme of the blog. Abigail, I must say that I really enjoyed the content and exploratory theme found throughout your posts. The title works well with the text in a very interesting way. The term “Voodoo” can certainly be applied to the vision that everyone has of Hollywood because it conjures two kinds of magic, good and evil. The example of the perched birds on Santa Monica Boulevard really gives your audience a sense of place. Your variation of texts including “Thatʻs so LA” and “Fake it until you make it” give a clear vision of the virtues (or lack there of) surrounding the dream that is Hollywood and the people that take part within it. That being said, I do have a few minor criticisms to share with you. After reading your blog, despite the bright pinkish colors and fluffy themes that you chose for your text, I felt a sense of disappointment or despair lingering between the different posts. Itʻs as if you want to be a part of the “idea” of Hollywood, but sadly understand how unreachable and distant the place beyond the stars actually is. Your quote “We are all riding down the infamous Boulevard of Broken Dreams” while I hope isnʻt taken from a Green Day song, definitely displays your discontent with LA and its infinite dreamers. I feel that you could have organized more of an equilibrium of light and dark themes throughout your blog. Perhaps a darker background, less cotton-candy like colors. But maybe thatʻs the theme you were going for, something shrouded with a specific likeness despite the actual truth or meaning behind the fluff, much like Hollywood itself. Anyways, your blog is great. I understand what you were trying to convey through your pictures and different texts, and I appreciate the Voodoo-like mentality that you have for the golden city.
